Fortnite developer Epic Games is buying Guitar Hero and Rock Band developer Harmonix. Epic and Harmonix confirmed the news after VentureBeat broke the story. It is just the latest big buyout from Epic, which previously acquired Rocket League developer Psyonix and Fall Guys studio Mediatonic.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. But in a blog post, Epic said it bought Harmonix to help build the metaverse. “As we work to build the metaverse, this expertise is needed to reimagine how music is experienced, created, and distributed,” Epic said.
Harmonix will work with Epic to create “musical journeys and gameplay” in Fortnite, while it continues to support Rock Band 4 and other earlier games.
