Kojima Production’s first game will use third-party engine

It has been reported by IGN that Kojima Production’s first title will use a third-party game engine, in order to speed up the development process.

The outlet reports that studio founder Hideo Kojima made several comments regarding the engine of his next game at the Nordic Game Jam 2016, saying that he was travelling a lot in a bid to find the right in-game engine for his studio’s first project.

“I actually think it’s better to make games using internal tools,” Kojima said. “As for my first title, because I want to release it to the people who are waiting for it, for that title we are going to use a third-party engine – the reason I am travelling around the world is looking for such technology to use.”

“At the beginning I was thinking to make a small title,” he added. “[But] after I met friends and acquaintances worldwide they said, ‘no everyone’s expecting you to make a big title’. So the first title coming from me will be a big title.”

Kojima parted ways with Japanese publisher Konami at the end of last year, following months of speculative tension between the two. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was his final project for the publisher but following his termination, swiftly announced the formation of a new studio under his own name.

Kojima Productions’ debut title will be released exclusively on PlayStation.
