Nintendo Switch Online service detailed: Cloud Saves, NES Games, Special Offers, and more – Family plan announced

Nintendo finally announced some more details for the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Launching this September, the service will have a few additional features over just allowing you to play online.

Playing Online:
While games like Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Tennis Aces, and more Nintendo titles will require a paid subscription, some games will not. It depends on the developer and the implementation. We know that Phantom Breaker Battle Grounds Overdrive will have a patch adding online when the paid subscription goes live.

Pricing:
$3.99 per month
$7.99 per quarter
$19.99 per year
$34.99 per year for a family plan.

Nintendo also detailed family plans and how to set thingds up: “Starting May 15, 2018, it will be possible to create a Nintendo Account Family Group via your Nintendo Account settings. Up to eight Nintendo Accounts (including child accounts) can be linked as a family group. Individual memberships can only be used by the Nintendo Account holder who purchased the membership. However, you can share the Nintendo Switch Online features across all the Nintendo Accounts in a family group by purchasing a family membership.”

NES Games:
Nintendo will launch 20 NES games for subscribers with more added on a regular basis. Launch games will include: Balloon Fight, Dr. Mario and Super Mario Bros. 3 will be joined by Donkey Kong, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda, Mario Bros., Soccer, Super Mario Bros. and more. There will be either coop multiplayer or online competitive multiplayer with more features and every classic NES title will have voice chat via the online mobile app. These games can also be played offline.

Cloud Saves:
Paid subscribers will be able to backup their save data online when the service launches in September.

Smartphone app:
You will sadly still need to use the Nintendo Switch Online app for various things in games like Splatoon 2 for teaming up with friends even when the paid subscription launches.
