The Evil Dead franchise will never die, at least not as long as Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi have anything to say about it. The duo is reuniting to visit the series once more with Evil Dead Rise, a movie sequel set to debut on HBO Max, rather than in theaters. New Line Cinema is the studio behind the film.
The news comes from , which reports Rami and Campbell will executive produce the film, alongside Robert Tapert, who worked with them on the film trilogy and the TV series that followed, Ash vs. Evil Dead. Unlike the movies and the show, though, Campbell will not reprise his role as Ash in this new film. Additionally, Raimi will not be directing the next chapter of the story. “I’m thrilled to bring Evil Dead back to its original home at New Line 40 years after the release of the first film,” Raimi said. “The company’s history as pioneers of horror speaks for itself. I’m equally excited to be working with Lee Cronin, whose gifts as a storyteller make him the ideal filmmaker to continue the enduring legacy of the franchise.”
