Monster Hunter: World is the next main game, not a spinoff: Producer – Worldwide

Monster Hunter: World is the next main Monster Hunter game.

Sony unveiled Monster Hunter: World from Capcom at their E3 presentation and it made one part of the gaming world go up in arms. A previously debunked rumour made people believe that World would be a dumbed down Western focussed Monster Hunter game but the producer and the footage shown off have laid most of those fears to rest. Monster Hunter: World will be releasing on both PS4 and Xbox One with a PC release happening later. It is also being worked on by the main team with some new staff brought in for next generation technologies. The name is so that people don’t skip it and to indicate a world wide focus with simultaneous release and with cross region online play. When asked about the naming and whether it is a spinoff, here’s what Ryozo Tsujimoto had to say:

This is the next main Monster Hunter game. Our Osaka team is working on it. We’ve brought in some people who are more familiar with next-gen technology to come in and help us adapt it for the current generation of consoles. When you have a series that runs into the higher numbers, I think the numbers themselves start to become off-putting. New players might think, “Oh, I’ve missed four games already, I can’t possibly join at this point.” Just because we’ve taken the number off the title doesn’t mean it’s not a main Monster Hunter game. We just wanted to have “world” in the title because it speaks to the concept of the game in a variety of ways. This is the first simultaneous worldwide release for the game, and the servers are global this time.
